NetMarket sells its first product online, a Sting CD to a customer in Philadelphia. Launched by a cohort of recent college graduates, NetMarket was one of the earliest (or arguably, the first) e-commerce website. It used a custom browser built on top of Mosaic in order to create secure, encrypted transactions. Over time the site continued to evolve as a major player in the e-commerce world.
